Geohazard Assessment
Fugro GeoConsulting brings together a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in geology, geophysics, geomorphology and geotechnical engineering with the ability to offer a complete Geohazard service covering identification, risk assessment, analysis, solution engineering and management.
The service can be offered for the purposes of both exploration drilling and field development and range from complete regional studies through to site specific solutions.
Geohazards can play a significant factor in the overall risks associated with deepwater projects throughout the operational life of the field. The key to addressing these risks is early identification of the geohazards and consideration of their possible impacts on the field development - together with continual refinement during the planning and design process as more data becomes available.
The geohazard impact zones defined in this assessment process can either be avoided or, where this is not possible, inform the engineering design process to consider mitigating measures that reduce the impact to an acceptable level.

Common offshore geohazards include:
- Slope instability and mass wasting processes
- Shallow water flow
- Active channels and turbidity currents
- Active faulting and seismicity
- Shallow (pressurised) gas and pockmarks
- Mud volcanoes
- Gas hydrates
- Bottom currents and scour
- Complex seabed morphology (rock out crops, coral, etc)
