Data Interpretation and Integration
The full benefit of the geophysical, geological and geotechnical datasets collected in site investigations for offshore developments can only be realised in a comprehensive, integrated interpretation study.
Fugro GeoConsulting's world class experts provide a truly integrated geoscience consultancy service in which seismic interpreters work closely with engineering geologists, geohazards specialists and geotechnical engineers to provide advice on geological, geomorphological and environmental constraints to offshore developments.
This involves identifying, mapping and assessing geohazards and developing bespoke mitigation strategies to facilitate well design, development layout, pipeline and flowline routing, foundation design and to define operational parameters.
Integrated Reporting
Various levels of integrated reporting are available, depending on the particular requirement. Whilst each successive level requires additional resources the value of the data collected and its potential for improving a project the economics is increased.
Level 1: ‘Standard’ integrated report: This comprises a combined geophysical and geotechnical report, with the basic geotechnical test data used to calibrate and
correlate the geophysical profile data. Thus a report consistent with both datasets is achieved.
Level 2: ‘Enhanced’ report: The standard report is developed by performing an assessment of the results to achieve a vertical and horizontal geotechnical zoning of the
site. The horizontal zoning comprises the delineation and mapping of ‘Soil Provinces’ within which similar soil profiles, and hence engineering behaviour, can be expected. For each
Province the representative vertical soil profile is defined and envelopes of relevant design parameters such as shear strength, friction angle etc, attributed to each layer. This is
the ‘vertical zoning’ which facilitates the calculation of engineering criteria such as trenchability, anchor holding capacity and so on.
Level 3: ‘Optimised’ report: The last stage of development of the integrated report is to incorporate engineering analyses based upon the geotechnical zoning and
provide estimates of criteria such as surface bearing capacity, trenching resistance, anchor holding capacity, upheaval buckling resistance etc. specific to the design, construction and
operation of the project.
